[00:00:00] Speaker A: And welcome to the Whole Hog Sports podcast, Tuesday edition. I'm Chip Souza, joined by the handsome Anthony Hicks. Wasn't here last week. The set looked a whole lot worse last week than it does this week. He brings a whole handsomeness, sexiness to the podcast.
How we doing? How we doing?
[00:00:16] Speaker B: Everything's great, man. Had some business trips I had to take.
Had to take care of those seasonal sales meetings.
[00:00:22] Speaker A: There you go.
[00:00:22] Speaker B: To go and talk about a lot of stuff. So I think we're ready. Got our rah rah. We had a chance to speak to a lot of different.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: So you didn't get a bye week. You were busy.
You didn't get a bye week.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: This was considered my bye week, I think, in the contract. I think you allowed me that one. So thank you very much. But I shouldn't miss again.
[00:00:40] Speaker A: Okay. All right.
So we got a big one coming in this week. Got a big one coming in. I mean, so, Anthony, Ben, they call this game, what, the border battle or the border rivalry or the battle of the. Whatever it's called borderline robbery. There you go. Borderline rivalry. Hadn't been much of a rivalry, though.
[00:00:58] Speaker B: No, no, they own us, man. I mean, I'm just being completely honest with you. It kind of gives me goosebumps thinking about that. But I hate to say that, but they own us. It is time to see if we're going to put up a. Shut up.
[00:01:10] Speaker A: Well, so when Missouri left the Big 12, Missouri had one natural rival. Kansas is their rival.
[00:01:17] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:01:18] Speaker A: So they kind of, you know, got in the SEC and like, okay, who's going to be their rival? Oh, well, Arkansas is the closest to Missouri. Let's make them the rivalry. So rival. So they. They created this absolutely hideous looking trophy and whatever and. And made this a rivalry, but it's never. It's never reached rivalry status. I mean, Missouri, Missouri's won nine out of the last 10 times.
[00:01:37] Speaker B: They play Missouri's one nine out of the last 10 times. And. And everybody knows, you know, Eli's coming home again.
He feels some type of way. He's a.
He's a Malzon kid guy. And also, too, he made a concerted effort to make sure you go to Missouri because we all know the story. He could have had a chance to come here, but he chose there.
And I get that he didn't want to play in that SEC west back in the day because you know what kind of gauntlet that was. And playing Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU and A and M and all those guys, every year, he made what's the best decision for himself. But I'm just looking for the same type of coach that can come in here and create some type of aggression. And I'm just looking forward to guys that see it this week to see if they get more mature.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: Now, you called him a Malzahn guy. He's also a Frank Vines guy from Alma. I mean, nobody's placed more hard nosed, tough football than Frank Vines did.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Yes. And a lot of people think that they go back to the 20, they're like, oh, Malazan throws the ball everywhere. Coach Malazan ran the ball.
[00:02:38] Speaker A: Oh, he wants to run the ball.
[00:02:39] Speaker B: He wants to run the ball. And that is indicative of what Missouri still their MO Is.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: Now, you know this, Anthony. If it's in your DNA, it's in your DNA.
Alma Kidd, who played for Frankie Vines, who, if Frankie scored 14 on you, he gonna win. He gonna win the game.
[00:02:54] Speaker B: He gonna win the game.
[00:02:54] Speaker A: He gonna win the game.
[00:02:55] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:02:56] Speaker A: So that's in his DNA. And then part of the comes in and is.
I don't call it a gradual. He was assistant coach. I don't know exactly what the. If he was paid or volunteer, I don't know. But he was with Malzahn and then left and went with Malzahn and stayed with Malzahn for a while. Then when Malzon got the head job at App State, just turned that.
I'm going to say something here, Anthony, that flies in the face of a lot of Hog fans. I root for Arkansas guys.
[00:03:23] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:03:23] Speaker A: Okay. Now, I don't hide from that or shy from that. I want Arkansas guys to do well. And that includes Eli Winkowicz. It includes Barry Lunny or Johnny Brewer or Cody Burns.
[00:03:35] Speaker B: Except when they're not playing us.
[00:03:36] Speaker A: Yeah, except when they're playing us. All right, so it's funny because drinkwits, they have a genuine dislike for Arkansas fans do. He's a quirky kind of a dude.
Doesn't mind, you know, getting under your skin a little bit.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: He backs it up.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: He backs it up. He's the kind of guy, I've always said this. He's the kind of guy that when he's coaching against your team, you hate him. But if he's coaching your team, you kind of like him.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: You kind of like him.
And I have to like him because when you see what he's done, not this last game, because this last game, Ole Miss put it on him because they had a great game plan. But look at the game. The two games before, he had two top 15 teams come in. And he beat the dog out of Florida.
[00:04:16] Speaker A: He did.
[00:04:18] Speaker B: And he beat the dog out of A and M. He did. And we've had issues with all of those teams. So I just want to see, you know, if we can take advantage of the home field advantage, a week's rest. I'll finally get some other people healthy and also, too, to just take some time, reevaluate what we can do best and come out and actually put on a good show because we have some confidence now. Let's see if we can continue with that.
[00:04:39] Speaker A: Mizzou comes in, they're five and two. They're two and two in the conference the last three seasons. Drink's done a great job first couple seasons. It took him a while to kind of get, you know, kind of get it going.
Do you think fans were calling for him to be let go after the first year? I'm not thinking that they did. He struggled a little bit first three years, then he got it going. Let's give a coach a chance. Okay? That's what I'm saying.
[00:04:56] Speaker B: I get it. I get it. But Drake shows consistency, and I'm just being honest with you. His team don't beat themselves. Okay. They're not undisciplined.
[00:05:06] Speaker A: But he had to get that culture in place. He had to build that culture.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: True. But you never saw it from day one. I mean, guarantee from day one, he actually set the standard for what his teams are supposed to be. And they've been consistent throughout the whole opportunity. So that's why they've been winning.
[00:05:21] Speaker A: Yeah. And he's done a good job there at a place that's not had. I mean, they're not an elite. This is not. They're not a blue blood program is what I'm saying.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: No, no, no, they're not. But they're just. But if you have the right system, if you have the right players, and like you said, it's about talent acquisition. He's going to get what's best for his system. And going out and get Simmons, that was a. That was a blessing.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: He seems to find dudes.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: Yes, he does. He always finds them. Always finds them.
[00:05:47] Speaker A: So he and Silverfield have faced each other before.
Mizzou beat Memphis. When Silverfield was there, it was, you know, a close game.
Silverfield has done well against him. That game was played in St. Louis in the Dome, where the.
What were they? The Rams, The Cardinals? The. What were they?
Whatever they were.
[00:06:09] Speaker B: They were the Rams. They were the Rams back in the day.
[00:06:11] Speaker A: Whatever they were.
I think that Doll's just sitting there. I think they're written it out.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: And that's a part telling our age. Man.
[00:06:16] Speaker A: There you go. There you go.
[00:06:17] Speaker B: A lot of these kids don't remember when St. Louis had a football team.
[00:06:20] Speaker A: Yeah. All right, so let's talk about Mizzou a little bit. We talked about them, you know, before, before we got the show going. They are a team and you alluded this while ago.
They want to dominate the line of scrimmage. They want to play physical and they want to run the ball. And they are good at it.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Yes, they are. Yes, they are. They're second in the conference overall in rushing behind Georgia, but they're number seven in the nation.
They had a running back. They got a running back, guys. Jamal Roberts. And he is unreal. And he's not even probably the best running back because the one that got shot last year, Ahmaud Hardy, who is coming back this week, who was consistent American SEC newcomer of the year last year, and he's back. So then they got that two headed monster.
[00:07:05] Speaker A: They stockpiling it.
[00:07:07] Speaker B: I mean, the kid got shot back in May. He had enough time to get back and. And he's rehab and both of them are back now. So Arkansas is going to have to control the line of scrimmage, especially first down.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: If I remember right, I think Notre Dame had that same kind of thing last year. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:07:24] Speaker B: But those Notre Dame bats, man, I know Jamal Hardy and I know Ahmad. I mean Jamal Robertson, Ahmad Harden.
[00:07:31] Speaker A: They're not Jeremiah Love.
[00:07:32] Speaker B: They're not Jeremiah.
[00:07:33] Speaker A: But they're still good though.
[00:07:34] Speaker B: Hey, both of those guys, man, they're still good. Yeah.
[00:07:37] Speaker A: Roberts comes into the game 167 carries. 897 yards.
8 cuddies.
[00:07:42] Speaker B: 7 games.
[00:07:43] Speaker A: 7 games.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: 7 games.
[00:07:45] Speaker A: 5.2 a carry. Last I checked. That's a first down every two times he carries a ball.
[00:07:49] Speaker B: Yes, that's first down every time he touched the ball. But if we go back and look at the highlights of that Ole Miss game, you can see what Ole Miss did because they literally said that we're going to control first down. Okay? You're not going to give the ball to Jamal and let him run all over the place. He's not gonna have 200 yards on us. We're gonna make you one dimensional. We're gonna put it in Simmons hands. And I would rather us stop Simmons. Stop the run completely. And make Simmons beat you. And make Simmons beat you with his arm because I don't think he has that ability to beat Us with his arm.
[00:08:20] Speaker A: So loading up the box like that, you're saying eight men in the box or close down or whatever.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: It's situational over this period of time, Chip, you have seven games. When you have seven games of fame to watch, you can find some tendencies.
Ole Missouri hasn't had a lot of injuries on the offensive line. So you have a chance to look and see what these guys are doing to the point where through coaching and through your analysts and everybody else in that building, you can find some different tendencies and some opportunities to go there. Now Ole Miss is doing the same. I mean, Missouri is doing the same thing. I mean, I don't know if you remember. I don't know if you remember a coach named J.B. grimes. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember. Yeah, he's an analyst for those guys.
He's actually retired, working out of naturally.
So these guys are literally, they're getting ready to, you know, hopefully have both of those guys at the same time, but they're gonna come after us, man.
[00:09:15] Speaker A: You know, Rick Jones, that was at Greenwood is also in. I'm not exactly sure what he does, but he's.
[00:09:20] Speaker B: He's in the system too.
[00:09:21] Speaker A: He's in the system.
[00:09:21] Speaker B: So he has Arkansas people, Arkansas based people in his system. But one thing I do know is they're tough.
[00:09:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:28] Speaker B: And they're not going to, they're not going to ball down to us and they are looking forward to embarrassing us on this field like they've been doing in the last five years, 10 years.
[00:09:37] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, whatever. I mean, we have Arkansas one win against him in the last 10 years. That 20, 21, they've been got a win over them.
There's been a couple of close games, a couple of blowouts too. But there's been a couple of close games.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: I mean, we fight, but like I said, I just want to see if after seven games now I've been seeing this team continuously get better. Yeah, okay, I've seen it.
[00:09:58] Speaker A: If you, you got to see it.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: Got to see it.
[00:10:01] Speaker A: You got to see it.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: You got to see it. Because what it is is it's taking him a little bit time to get those people to understand the system. He's still trying to figure out the players that that plays. And also too what down and distance, he can have the players in. Because I wouldn't have in some situations, especially from a linebacker perspective, I wouldn't have Bradley Shaw in on running down if he's dropping back and passing. I get that because I think he's better than Smith at dropping back passing. I would have, you know, some of the other guys that's in his past better at pass rushing and, you know, they can get to the ball a lot better.
Make sure you have the right personnel because, you know, your kids now, who can do this, who can do that, but right now they should be able to put us in a better position. Take the ole base playbook, defensive playbook, and try to see if we can do it now.
[00:10:48] Speaker A: Arkansas comes into this game off a by. Mizzou also comes into this game off a by. They both had a chance to sit back and heal up a little bit and also make some adjustments and make some. Maybe some schematic adjustments and things like that, because as you said, there's seven games of film out there to watch for both teams. So we'll see who makes the biggest adjustments and that kind of thing. You mentioned Austin Simmons, their quarterback. He's having a pretty good year. Not fantastic, but a pretty good year.
He's passed for 1700 yards and 14 touchdowns. Caden Lee's his top receiver, just a little under 700 yards. So they can throw the ball, but their preference is to run the football.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: And. And that's football. I mean, I'm gonna be honest with you. I mean, everybody knows Simmons because they remember him from Ole Miss. Yeah, and. And it was the craziest part of it because I honestly thought we were going to win that game. Because if you don't remember the Ole Miss game last year should have won the game. Simmons started that game off and he could barely walk. And he finally got hurt. And then we saw the birth of a beast. Trinidad in Trinidad.
[00:11:50] Speaker A: Where did he come from?
[00:11:51] Speaker B: Ferris State. Believe me, I knew who he was because I follow Harding university and Division 2 football out of the Great American Conference League.
[00:11:59] Speaker A: Lane Kiffin was on him.
Where was usc? Where was usc? Isn't he supposed to be the quarterback whisperer? Where's he at?
[00:12:08] Speaker B: Where was Alabama?
Where was any of them?
[00:12:11] Speaker A: Lane knew him. Lane had him. Got it. Lane knew it.
[00:12:13] Speaker B: I mean, that kid is. He's a. He's Lincoln Riley.
[00:12:16] Speaker A: Where Lincoln Riley at? You know where Lincoln Riley at? You about to be on the unemployment line. That's where Lincoln Riley.
[00:12:20] Speaker B: Hey, man, if you go, if you gonna pay me that much to fire me, pay me, fire me.
[00:12:24] Speaker A: You know what? Now kids at career day school, they're like, what do you want to be and you grow up? I want to be a fire college football coach.
[00:12:31] Speaker B: Hey, man, that is a lie. Fire college football coach, backup quarterback and Maybe a kicker.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: Yeah. There you go. Our bullpen catcher.
There you go.
Injuries.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: All right, Gotcha.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: Chris Marshall, the star receiver, played just a few snaps against Vandy, went out.
He.
It's hopeful that he'll be ready to go on Saturday night at 6:45.
[00:12:57] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: Also, the. Kaden Kittler, the center, he's been dealing with the four foot injury. Maybe. I think you have broken toe and now plantar. You ever had plantar fasciitis? I've never had it, but I know people have.
[00:13:09] Speaker B: No, I haven't had it.
[00:13:10] Speaker A: They say cutting off your leg would feel a whole lot better than having.
[00:13:12] Speaker B: I don't know, I think turf toe. Got it.
[00:13:14] Speaker A: Maybe.
[00:13:14] Speaker B: Hey, sorry.
[00:13:16] Speaker A: I had a hangnail one time.
[00:13:17] Speaker B: Oh, God. That old turf we used to have back in the 90s, man, that. That was just the devil. I mean, it was that old school hard turf from back in the day, and we always used to get turf. Neil Weber used to always take care of us and wrap our toe up and actually put. Yeah, it was crazy.
[00:13:34] Speaker A: Kittler is listed as a starter for Saturday. We'll see how that goes.
I'm telling. What, man, Courtney looked good. Cash. Courtney looked good.
[00:13:44] Speaker B: It's not even about just looking good. I mean, I've been watching other podcasts and I've also watched another football film, and what they've been noticing is that it's effortless. I mean, Cade knows everything to do. He's doing it right, but he's. It's just an extra playing through the end of the whistle. Okay. And if you're an offensive lineman and you don't play to the end of the whistle or you're too busy looking, and there was a lot of instances in the first seven games where you could see that and just looking for a little bit more effort from Cade. I mean, you were a captain on this team. You got replaced, you know, so now you've been humble. So you gonna sink a swim? You either gonna show me something, tuck your tail, or you gonna let this kid come in? Because Courtney is. That kid is ready. I mean, the future for Arkansas looks good. If we can keep him, he.
[00:14:28] Speaker A: I will say, you know, I mean, high school success doesn't always translate to college success, because in college, everybody's a good high schooler. Right? I mean, that's the way it is. But he came from a very elite program at Carthage, Texas. Scott Surratt, I think he's won 12 state championships since he's been there. He was Ryan Mallett's coach, Texas High before he took the head coaching job at Carthage.
And so he comes from a winning culture.
[00:14:52] Speaker B: Yes. And you can see some of the technique and some of the things that he was doing to the point where it actually put our running backs and put us in a better position. And that's, you know, getting off the line, getting off the ball, getting your hands. But mainly the most basic part of it. Head level. I mean, head level, man. I keep. I mean, because there is no better way to get your butt whooped as off as a wine is by having high pads because everybody else has their hand down on the ground and their first motion is to come up and through and leverage and bring your hips. And our guys are sitting there, you know, doing the moat.
[00:15:26] Speaker A: Dancing. We're dancing.
[00:15:27] Speaker B: And that's why I was saying you can't tell the difference between if they're plasbocking or if they're run blocking because it all looks the same because there's no push.
[00:15:35] Speaker A: Yeah, they had the push against Fanty.
[00:15:37] Speaker B: Yes, they did.
[00:15:38] Speaker A: Stayed low, had good leverage.
[00:15:39] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: The result was the best rushing game of the season.
And that's what they're going to have to do. They're going to have to control the ball. Missouri's going to try to control the ball. Their run game. Arkansas needs to try to counter that by controlling the ball on their side. Whoever controls the ball and has the fewest turnovers normally is a recipe for success.
[00:15:58] Speaker B: True. And also too. First time I've seen our. All our offensive line put their hand on the ground in a normal play.
[00:16:07] Speaker A: Hit him in the mouth.
[00:16:08] Speaker B: Hit him in the mouth. So it's going to take all of that this week. I mean, it's going to take some opportunities. Is the weather supposed to be good? It's supposed to rain.
[00:16:16] Speaker A: I think it's supposed to be nice.
[00:16:17] Speaker B: Also, too. We are. We have to look at this. Missouri is playing on grass. Okay. Because I don't think they have grass up in Missouri.
[00:16:24] Speaker A: No, it's true.
[00:16:24] Speaker B: So they're playing on grass now, and I've been noticing that. I wish it would rain, but I don't care.
[00:16:31] Speaker A: Although, yeah, that would be good. Make the ball a little bit, you know, harder to hold on to. Maybe.
[00:16:36] Speaker B: I just want us to take advantage of the opportunity and grow from these. This last win at Vanderbilt, I guarantee you, man, the feeling that those kids had jumping on that plane, coming back to Nashville, coming back from Nashville to Fayetteville and coming home and sleeping. I guarantee every one of them slept so good that night, you know, probably after they got to partying and celebrating their first game in 14 game losing stream. You finally won with SEC game. Thank God.
But you got to start with one. So let's see if they can build on top of that.
[00:17:05] Speaker A: Kickoffs at 6:45 later kickoff Halloween.
[00:17:08] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:17:10] Speaker A: So does that get the crowd a little more charged up for that game in a later game?
[00:17:17] Speaker B: I'm gonna let y' all worry about that, okay.
I am not really looking forward to worried about who's in the stands or who want to come to the game. And you know, like you said, it is Halloween, which is very huge, you know, holiday in Fayetteville where everybody love
[00:17:36] Speaker A: me some candy, I love me some snicker bar.
[00:17:38] Speaker B: Mixing is going to be crazy. Kids are going to be everywhere.
But I just want to, you know, I just want to win this game, man.
[00:17:45] Speaker A: And I know this, this is not right, but it seems like it's right. I know it's not. I know there have been other night games, but it just seems like the last time Arkansas had a big night game was against Texas.
The crowd was charged up.
They fed off that energy. That's what I'm talking about, man.
They need that energy.
Give me some sugar energy.
However you get your sugar, get it.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: And believe me, we're gonna have fans that's gonna be there early in the morning and they gonna be charged up all day long. And I hope they take care of themselves. But I know my 738 boys over there at gate one. They're gonna be over there, my boy Tom and, and all his buddies. And I just want everybody to really understand that, you know, these kids are trying, you know, yes, I've been hard on them. My dad gave me an intervention last weekend. Uh oh, I went home last weekend.
[00:18:37] Speaker A: He said, sit down, let's talk about it.
[00:18:38] Speaker B: He's like, don't be so hard on them. I was like, dad, don't judge them on anything else that they're doing besides their effort, effort, effort. That's the only thing I judge these kids on is their effort and their discipline. And if we continue to grow like they're showing, we got a good chance.
[00:18:55] Speaker A: We had the same conversation podcast a while back. Listen, if you are more talented than me and that happens, there's just going to be dudes that's going to be more talented than you are. They are. But don't let them outwork you. Okay? You can be more talented or less talented, but don't get outworked. Don't get out efforted.
[00:19:16] Speaker B: Hard Work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
[00:19:18] Speaker A: Every day.
[00:19:19] Speaker B: Every day.
[00:19:20] Speaker A: Every day.
All right, so before we, before we move on and we want to talk about Vanderbilt. Let me talk about that one more time because like you said, ended 14 game loses. I don't want to let it go just yet.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: Hey, let's feel it, let's take advantage.
[00:19:34] Speaker A: All right. K.J. jackson.
[00:19:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:36] Speaker A: In these eyes he's 65 year old eyes, my eyes a little bit older than yours and by the way, I got new eyes. But anyway, my 6, my new KJ looked more comfortable in the offense against Vandy. And I'm not saying Vandy is Georgia, I'm not saying that. I'm also saying they're not Louisiana Monroe. Okay. All right, now he looked comfortable.
It seemed like he played within himself.
[00:20:00] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:20:00] Speaker A: Did what he was capable of and took. These are all cliches. And took what the defense gave him. It's funny, you know why they're cliches? Because they work.
They work.
[00:20:10] Speaker B: Yes, they did work. Yes, they did work.
[00:20:12] Speaker A: They're true.
[00:20:13] Speaker B: And a lot of people don't understand. KJ was not a throw the ball all over the field when he came out of high school. This kid was an option quarterback that came out of kind of south Alabama. He was an amazing athlete that can do multi sport, that can do anything, that played multiple sports. And we just need to utilize his attributes and which is his legs. I mean he has a beautiful ball. His touch is getting a whole, a lot better.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: He's not throwing 95 miles, he's not
[00:20:40] Speaker B: throwing it choking like he's like crazy. So. But he's getting better and the maturity that he's seeing and ability to be able to see what's there. And look at his keys.
Like I said, I think we have a chance but we're not going to continuously need to get these holding calls and these all size calls and these little.
[00:21:00] Speaker A: Gotta be better discipline.
[00:21:01] Speaker B: There gotta be a little bit discipline. Hopefully we can cover the penalties down to less than five.
I know, I know, I know, I get it.
[00:21:10] Speaker A: But they do that.
[00:21:11] Speaker B: That's what it's, that's what it's gonna take to finish out the rest of the year. Okay. Because there's one thing that I remember that coach Frank Burroughs always said they remember in November.
[00:21:22] Speaker A: They remember in November.
[00:21:23] Speaker B: That's right, they remember in November. And if we can start this on a great note at October 1st, who knows what we can do because everybody's getting ready to go to a guntlet in November. I mean, Missouri has what, Texas next week they have, they gotta go to Georgia the week after that. Then they got Kentucky coming in the week after that. And we have our gauntlet coming on, but it's not as hard as theirs. But we still have Texas and we still have the hard LSU and.
But that's football. But you have to get better. So let's start with this one. Let's see if we can add two and create a streak.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: Yeah. Ooh, a win streak.
[00:22:01] Speaker B: Hey, man, see, I'm trying to win streak. Hey, that intervention from my father literally got me to start looking at more of the positive of what they're trying to do.
[00:22:09] Speaker A: I like it. I like it. I like that, coach. I like that.
I like it. I like that.
[00:22:14] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:22:15] Speaker A: All right, Finish up. Okay, Jay. 251 passing, 58 rushing. Some nice designed run plays for him. Those plays aren't going to work for 10 yards every time. But, but, but if you can get four or five out of them just. And keep the, keep the down box moving toward the end of the change and not toward the start of the change. He gives you, it gives you a chance.
[00:22:35] Speaker B: This is something that we should have been doing a long time ago. Okay? This kid is not soft, okay? Like I said, he's a born and bred option quarterback that has an ability to throw the ball and throws a great ball. We need to take advantage of his running ability. He's not a small kid.
[00:22:50] Speaker A: No, I was gonna say if you could get him leaning forward, he's like 6 foot 4, 6 5.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: I mean he's, he's big. I mean he's 220, 215, 220 plus. So get this kid going, get him some confidence, get him to the point where he's hard nosed and he's doing some things and getting that first down. We just need to take advantage of what they give us and not trying to overdo things and overthink everything. Take our time when we need to go tempo, Go tempo.
Be methodical and not be so just so predictable. Because Ole Miss is predictable. I mean, I don't know if you've seen them before, but they're predictable. I mean, you. Missouri, Missouri, Missouri is predictable and Ole Miss noticed that. So that's why they was always in that run blitz in the first, second down because they knew that they were going to try to establish a run. He is going to stick to it. He's going to continue to stay.
[00:23:38] Speaker A: Why would he?
[00:23:39] Speaker B: I mean, because it's been consistent for him, but also too. If it doesn't work, then he just want to stay in the game until the third and fourth quarter until he possibly beat you down. And then I'm going to run that ball down your throat, bring in a mod or bring in whoever that I have and Jamal and they're going to try to run the ball. This is going to have to take a complete game, not just two quarters.
[00:23:57] Speaker A: Now our two running backs who had the bulk of the carriage against Vanderbilt, Braylon Russell, Cam Settles, Two Arkansas guys. Two hard nosed, tough, tough running. Arkansas Razorbacks. Yeah, I loved it that they were more involved in the offense against Vanderbilt. I would love to see them, you know, get that combined, you know, 24 to 30 carries, you know, 12 to 15 apiece. I feel like they give you the best chance to be. I'm not saying they're. Russell's a hammer. I don't know that Settles is a hammer, but he's a tough runner between the pack.
[00:24:30] Speaker B: Both of them ran different than what they've ran all year. Yeah, I haven't seen Russell run this way until since his freshman year where he literally one person wasn't going to take him down.
[00:24:39] Speaker A: Good.
[00:24:40] Speaker B: That's the way.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: That's the way he should be.
[00:24:41] Speaker B: That's the way it should be. Cam was the same way. They wouldn't let one guy.
Sutton is little. Okay. He's a little guy.
[00:24:49] Speaker A: I like the way they used him against Danny because they found out a way to get him the ball in space where he could utilize his skill set.
[00:24:58] Speaker B: Thank you. Like I said, we are finding things out about this team that if we take advantage of the down, the distance, the field position, we got to place better on special teams. I'm looking for us especially from a punishment perspective. There's been some times where we could have had this team backed up inside of the 20 or maybe even, you know, down on the end, down within the 10. But we, we're not putting ourselves and we haven't really played an entirely complete game altogether. It's always something lacking, it's always something there. But we start off with special teams, with field position and also defense.
I think everything will work out.
[00:25:36] Speaker A: So could be big, could be gig. Now let's talk about Antonio Jordan.
[00:25:40] Speaker B: Oh, God.
Warren Lumberjack.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: Is he the next big Warren Lumberjack?
[00:25:45] Speaker B: Man, I've been saying this for the last two years, man, and I know a lot of other people don't know who Antonio Jordan was, is. But you know who he is now. I mean the kid is another one of those great Warren. Warren. Receivers that came out of it. And this kid is a specimen. I mean, and he's just a baby. Okay? And I'm just being completely honest with you. He's a baby. And when he gets it, when it turns, he's going to be like Chris Marshall at probably by the end of the year. I mean, by probably the end of the year or starting next year with his size. He, he, he, he was like six. He's six. Yeah, six. Six.
[00:26:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:18] Speaker B: Got. He's learning how to catch the ball. He has some drops. Okay. And that's one of the issues that I think we have with this team is they very subjectable to drops. Okay.
[00:26:29] Speaker A: Just do the things, the little things that we're asking you to do. You don't have to make Chris Marshall one handed catches, brother. Just when you have a chance to catch the ball. Catch the ball. And he did that.
[00:26:46] Speaker B: But it might be in our benefit to have Chris Marshall out there, but also as a decoy.
[00:26:51] Speaker A: Well, here's the thing.
[00:26:52] Speaker B: Because they don't know who you're going to throw the ball to again.
[00:26:54] Speaker A: KJ Got to quit locking in on Marshall all the time. He's got to look around a little bit.
[00:26:57] Speaker B: Bit too. You are absolutely right. But the kid is always open. I mean, it'd be different if he's not open. It was a great ball. The kid is.
[00:27:03] Speaker A: I know this is not a word, but he might be. Opener, Opener more. Now that, now that, now that Jordan gives him a threat.
[00:27:12] Speaker B: Thank you. Jordan gives him a threat. Let's get C.J. back involved. I mean, there are some other guys out there.
There's some other guys out there. Oh, my old man. My old man Monty stepped up and
[00:27:22] Speaker A: went across the middle. Punk did. He's, he's, he played some tight end in that game.
[00:27:26] Speaker B: Hey, bro, that's what he. I'm gonna be honest with you. He is an H back. Okay. He's an H back tight end type player that we can. That I would love to get him man to man on the linebacker. And that's what they did by having him come across the middle, getting him one on one with a linebacker or a safety. They can't hold him.
[00:27:42] Speaker A: I think his medicare is kicked in, so he's okay.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: Hey, hey. He don't need Medicare. He already got the, he already got the major league retirement. He got a full. He got a scholarship now and that is getting nil.
I think he won.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: Okay. Okay.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: I think he's winning. He's winning.
[00:27:58] Speaker A: So who you got?
[00:28:03] Speaker B: I'm going for us because I want Arkansas. I'm never going to just cheer against us. I'm going to be realistic. But I think we have a great opportunity to win this game if we play better, if we keep moving towards and the goal is to play a complete game, all three phases of the game from start to finish. And let's see what we can do. Let's take advantage of the opportunities they give us. And I'm gonna make this prediction. Whoever controls the time of possession will win the game.
[00:28:34] Speaker A: Okay, I'll say that. I'll take that, I'll take that as definitely something they need to do. They also, you mentioned it, they need to not shoot themselves in the foot with penalties. Don't, don't negate a six yard run by a holding call. Behind the play.
[00:28:48] Speaker B: Behind the play. Yep.
[00:28:49] Speaker A: Don't, don't do that.
[00:28:50] Speaker B: Let him go.
[00:28:51] Speaker A: Don't, don't block in the back on a punt return. If Sutton gets a 25 or 30 yard. Okay, don't, don't do that.
You know, cut. Eliminate that and give yourself a chance and do the things that you can do and do them well.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes. Consistent.
[00:29:09] Speaker A: Yeah, do them well.
[00:29:10] Speaker B: Very consistent.
[00:29:11] Speaker A: Control the controllables.
[00:29:12] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:29:12] Speaker A: That kind of thing. Yes, man.
